I may have to rethink my entire parenting strategy

I’m not the mom you will find combing the health food isle at your local grocer.  You will more likely find me looking at the reduced priced bakery items for good buys on cupcakes & those birthday cakes with the name spelled wrong.

What?  Like you never look at about to expire baked goods?

I don’t buy organic foods.  If I do happen to have something organic in my kitchen it is because it was on sale and less expensive than the regular version.

I feed my kiddos sugar like it has it’s a required food group.  Twenty minutes till dinner and Belle is whining for cookies…go ahead kid, have 4.  If bribing her with sweets keeps her quiet so be it.

Some moms look down on bribery.

I smile at bribery  and embrace it at every opportunity possible.  How the hell would I get anything done without bribery?

An extremely successful bribe includes a good helping of candy.  Any kind will work, but my kids prefer lollipops and gummi bears.  So tonight to get Levi to just sit still for a few minutes I offered up a lollipop and well…it worked.

But now I feel guilty.

I feel like a bad mom who didn’t think her plan through.

He was tired but he wouldn’t quit jumping around and whining.

I needed just a few minutes to get Belle settled in bed.

I didn’t think he would fall asleep…

The lollipop that could have caused undue harm upon my baby boy

And…..and how bad is it that I grabbed the camera to take a picture before removing the lollipop??

There may be no help for me!

Yes, I know he didn’t get his teeth brushed…

Yes, I know his entire mouth is bathing in sugar…

Yes, I know he could have choked!

He survived, so stop berating yourself. We’ve all had less-than-perfect parenting moments; only some of us are brave enough to admit it, so kudos to you for that. As we’re all getting through h1n1 and all the other stuff that comes with fall festivities, I say … give yourself a break! Be good enough today:)

These are moments you don’t want to forget. So, take the picture, let him sleep, then brush his teeth in the morning. :) He’ll survive. And you have a humorous picture of your son that makes you smile every time you look at it! :)

but think of the sweet dreams he had! Good Mommy … mainly because you survived one more day of motherhood without being admitted to the land of rubber-lined rooms!

Hi, Duchess – just wanted to say I agree with above commenters. They will survive just like we did. Have a great day!

So can I just say he had visions of Lollipops dancing in his head?

It’s not like you expected him to fall asleep! This is pretty funny…
I’m not above bribery. To buy a few extra minutes to do something or get my daughter to quiet down, I will totally give her a few cookies or a sweet. No harm done. You just capture it better on camera!

I have several pictures of my children asleep with some type of candy in their mouths or on their cheek! It is the sweet part of the sugar high called the sugar coma! Love it!

This is great!I am with you on the bribing. My wife and I go through phases but we always go back to cookies and candy. Carrot sticks and apple slices only go so far!

Too Cute! I am not so much of the bribing with sugar kind but I do have a direct line to Santa and the kids know it. I have a child who once the sugar hits her veins she is a monster so it’s really not an option otherwise I am sure I’d be all over it!

Just think how handy this photo will be when he’s a teenager and bribery has now turned to blackmail.

You are totally fine. I potty trained mine with the bribery of Matchbox cars. I spent $100 on those SOBs and laid them all on the table where he could see them and then told him he could have one everytime he went in the potty. He was potty trained in 15 minutes. It was a miracle.

    If it works, why not?

My wife still bribes me to get stuff done, and you won’t see me complaining.
